Drug Name Zithromax Drug Uses Zithromax is used for treating mild to moderate infections caused by certain bacteria. It may also be used alone or with other medicines to treat or prevent certain infections in persons with advanced HIV infection. It may also be used for other conditions as determined by your doctor. How to use Use Zithromax as directed by your doctor. Check the label on the medicine for exact dosing instructions. Take Zithromax by mouth with or without food. If stomach upset occurs, take with food to reduce stomach irritation. Do not take an antacid that has aluminum or magnesium in it within 1 hour before or 2 hours after you take Zithromax. Zithromax works best if it is taken at the same time each day. To clear up your infection completely, use Zithromax for the full course of treatment. Keep using it even if you feel better in a few days. Drug Class and Mechanism Zithromax is a macrolide antibiotic. It slows the growth of, or sometimes kills, sensitive bacteria by reducing the production of important proteins needed by the bacteria to survive. Missed Dose If you miss a dose of Zithromax, take it as soon as possible. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular dosing schedule. Do not take 2 doses at once. Storage Zithromax tablets should be stored between 15 to 30 degrees C (59 to 86 degrees F). Store constituted suspension between 5 to 30 degrees C (41 to 86 degrees F) and discard when full dosing is completed or within 10 days. Shake well before each use. Oversized bottle provides shake space. Keep tightly closed. Zithromax Tablets, 250 mg, 500 mg, 750mg. To reduce the development of drug-resistant bacteria and maintain the effectiveness of ZITHROMAX ® (azithromycin) and other bacterial drugs, ZITHROMAX (azithromycin) should be used only to treat or prevent infections that are proven or strongly suspected to be caused by bacteria. ZITHROMAX is a macrolide antibiotic to treat infections of upper and low respiratory tract, especially ear infections, pneumonia. Product Description Common use Zithromax is a semi-synthetic macrolide antibiotic chemically related to erythromycin which is active against majority of species of gram positive and gram negative microorganisms such as genus Staphylococcus; S. aureus, S. pneumoiane, S. pyogenes, S. agalactiae, Haemophilus influenzae and parainfluenzae, Moraxela catarrhalis, Bacteroides fragilis, Escherichia coli, Bordetella ssp., Borrelia burgdorferi, Haemophilus ducreui, Nisseria gonorrhoeae Ø Chlamidia trachomati. In vitro it showed activity against Legionella pneumophila, Mycoplasma pneumoiae Ø hominis, Helicobacter pylori, Toxoplasma gondii, Ureaplasma urealiticum. As a Macrolide antibiotic Zithromax inhibits bacterial protein synthesis and prevents bacteria from growth and propagation. It is used to treat infections of upper and low respiratory organs (tonsillitis, otitis, sinusitis, pneumonia), urogenital infections (urethritis, prostatitis, cervicitis, adnexitis caused by chlamydia, gonorrhea, early syphilis), intestinal infections, ulcer of stomach and duodenum.


Do not take an antacid that has aluminum or magnesium in it within 1 hour before or 2 hours after you take Zithromax.
